I have been meaning to start posting some of the more interesting Intellectual Property (IP) opportunities that I have been running across. It is amazing to me the number of very interesting ideas that come to me in my research management consultancy. I don't suppose that should be a big surprise since I work with some of the brightest and most creative people on the planet. Anyway, today I am setting up a new blog category called "Patents and Other IP Opportunities."
It is my intent to post some of the more interesting ideas I run across. Some, of course, are so hair-brained that only the inventor can imagine them working. Nevertheless, there are some very clever ideas that are screaming out for further development. Many of the ideas will be in some form of patent process (provisional or otherwise) and will have some amount of IP protection. Nevertheless, inventors often need money and time to determine the real feasibility and market potential of their ideas. They are often willing to share in the potential financial benefits with someone who will help them get going. Hence, I will be posting from time to time some interesting ideas for the benefit that those of you readers who like to invest in novel approaches.
A word of caution is in order here. Investing in novel ideas is not for the faint of heart. It is really only for what the SEC would call the "qualified investor." In a nutshell that means someone who can afford to evaluate the potential and sustain the financial loss if it should fail. The technology development business is much like the guy on David Letterman who is jumping on a trampoline while juggling flaming bowling pins and then Letterman asks, "Is this something?" Many times it is nothing. Sometimes it is something truly interesting but has little profit potential. Occasionally there will be the "killer idea" that you won't want to miss. That's just the way it goes.
And finally, for the many readers I have who have interesting ideas that they would like to try to promote, please contact me. If your idea has some merit, I'd be happy to work with you in putting together a posting. Who knows...maybe someone will think it is "something."
