The Science, Art and Discipline of Technology Development by Ron Stites is now available on Amazon.com in Kindle format.
The purpose of the book is to:
- Raise awareness of the need for validation of claims,
- Give some of the “science” on how to evaluate claims,
- Give some guidance on the “art” of managing evaluation and development processes and
- Give some guidance on how to build an organization that can create and sustain a culture where critical evaluation and development of new ideas is an innate discipline.
The book is organized as follows:
- The Science of Technology Development – This is the technical stuff. Read at least the first few pages on how we know. The statistical stuff is for those who want to know more. Much of it can be skipped without losing too much of the general drift.
- The Art of Technology Development – This is for those who are trying to build an organization that have the capabilities to do evaluation of technology. It would also be good for those who are evaluating organizations for their ability to make good decisions about new ideas
- The Discipline of Technology Development – This is the Dark Side of managing. It presumes that many people are only interested in themselves and that they are at enmity with the organization. It is a call to resolute commitment toward building an organizational culture that demands truthfulness, objectivity, engagement and hard work. It is only through culture that a knowledge driven organization can sustain growth.
- Conclusions – This is a call to both personal and corporate action.
